During tonight's Elk Grove City Council meeting, several individuals and community groups were recognized for their volunteer efforts.

Dubbed the Mayor's Volunteer Award, the first annual awards were presented to those groups and individuals who contributed to the improvement of Elk Grove through their collective efforts. A selection committee received several nominations and bestowed the honors to the following individuals and groups.

* Connie Conley of Elk Grove Community Connection in the Residents, Neighborhoods and Community Group category

* Frank Lucia for his work with People Assisting The Homeless (PATH) Program in the Social & Community Services category.

* Local writer Nan Mahon in the Arts, Culture and Heritage category.

* Dan Woodward with the Elk Grove Youth Baseball in the Children and Youth Support category.

* In the Sports and Recreation category Elk Grove Youth Sports Foundation.

* Franklin High School student Austin Wu for his numerous volunteer efforts from entertaining senior citizens to over 400 hours of community services was recognized as the Young Volunteer of the Year.
