During their monthly meeting last night, The Elk Grove Multicultural Committee made significant progress in organizing this summer's multicultural festival

The multicultural committee, which was organized last year with the goal of educating the community about the City's cultural diversity and plan a festival celebrating, discussed several crucial elements of the festival from logistics to entertainment.

Although the meeting was conducted under Robert's Rules, the audience was encouraged to participate in the discussions about various aspects of the festival ranging from entertainment to fundraising.

During the course of the meeting the committee agreed on a tentative logo design for the festival (see the image above), a tentative list of dance troupes and overall logistics of the festival, solicitation of sponsors and budgetary items. The city has committed $20,000 toward the festival and Kaiser Permanete has tentatively agree to provide $5,000 as a sponsor.

Committee member Norm De Young, who has been involved in the Western Festival for decades said the committee should aim to raise about $30,000 to $35,000 to adequately fund the this years festival. DeYoung also said based on his experience he expects this festival to grow each year and that more community involvement will be needed as it grows.

This years festival will be held on Saturday, August 25 at the Elk Grove Regional Park.
