One of Congressman Dan Lungren's campaign signs in Elk Grove .
While embroiled in one of the country's most competitive and increasingly nasty Congressional races, Republican incumbent Dan Lungren has seemingly made one strategic decision in his efforts to beat back Democratic challenger Dr. Ami Bera.

Lungren, a wily career politician and long time member of Congress has omitted key elements in his signs that have sprung up all over the district.

The first thing missing is his party designation. This is actually a fairly common tactic for politicians bidding for the ever elusive independent voter.

The more glaring omissions from Lungren's signs are "re-elect" and "Congressman" designations. The omission can be interpreted as a strategic move by Lungren's campaign brain trust to negate the universal disapproval of the current Congress and the "blue" nature of California, and with new congressional districts, California's Seventh.

We will see on election day if this strategy, not the mention the boatloads of Super PAC money flowing into the airwaves and mailboxes, help Lungren secure another term.
