With the City of Elk Grove entering its budgetary process for fiscal year 2014, now is the time to take a look at some of the expenses associated with running our city.
A review of the city's recent invoices finds some rather large costs and other more obscure ones that while small, reminds us of all the moving parts a budget represents.
These five men will be deciding the city's 2014 budget based largely on city staff recommendations. |
Here is a sampling of some the recent paid invoices by the city.
- Phone and internet services - Vendor: Frontier Communications, $20,903 (multiple payments)
- Pest control services, city hall - Vendor: Bell Bros. Pest Control, $151
- Garbage collection - Vendor: Allied Waste, $816,934
- Mass transit - Vendor: MV Transportation, $412,982
- Legal notices and misc. advertising - Vendor: Herburger Publications, $4,290 (multiple payments)
- Newspaper subscription - Vendor: Herburger publications, $35
- City planning services - Vendor: Pacific Municipal Consultants, $90,117 (multiple payments)
- Electricity - Vendor, SMUD, $50,623
- Retirement funding - Vendor: CALPERS, $264,427
- County jail booking fees - Vendor: Sacramento County, $1,318

Well at least the City of Elk Grove, meaning the city council, isn't spending over $900 a month on flower arrangments for the various VIP offices that the city manager's office authorized every month.
Guess who put a stop to that little perk? Yep, those pesky citizens!

Actually, it is run on a regular basis. Usually the first item on the consent calendar of each council meeting agenda. You can see the expenditures and it can be very interesting!
