A Sacramento man was arrested yesterday morning after making a threat to a Wal Mart employee that he possessed a gun.

According to Elk Grove Police, 36-year old Alphonse Grimes entered the Elk Grove Blvd. Wal Mart, placed a TV set and DVD player in a shopping cart and left the store without paying for the goods. When the suspect was approached by loss prevention employee outside the store, he indicated that he had a gun.

Although no gun was observed, the employee did not attempt to detain Grimes. The suspect placed the TV into a vehicle then drove away.

A license plate number was obtained and EGPD officers responded to the registered owners address in Sacramento. Officers later located the vehicle involved and conducted a vehicle stop.

Grimes was the front passenger in the vehicle. A witness was transported to the location and positively identified Grimes as the person responsible for the robbery.

Grimes was also found to be in possession of narcotics and had an active warrant out for his arrest. The suspect was arrested then taken to the main jail where he is being held on $100,000 bail. The stolen TV was not located.

Yes, these are the kind of "good neighbors" we need in Elk Grove. Walmart may have low prices, but you take your life into your hands when you visit one. It is like russian roulette...you take your chances that some heist isn't being planned to coinside with your visit. For some, the risk is not worth the 10% savings and the dismantling of other local, small businesses.
