A Sacramento man was arrested yesterday afternoon on suspicion of shoplifting and assaulting a store employee with a crow bar.

According to Elk Grove Police, 24-year old Jalontie Barron was observed shoplifting at the Elk Grove Best Buy store on West Stockton Blvd. Barron attempted to leave from a fire exit and when he was unable to do that, he ran toward the front door where he was confronted by a store employee.

Upon confronting the employee, Barron allegedly swung a crow bar at the employee striking him in the head. A struggle ensued and Barron hit the employee several times with the crow bar.

Other store employees were able to detain Barron until police officers arrived. A search of Barron revealed the discovery of narcotics.

Barron was arrested and taken to the county jail where he is being held on a $50,000 bail for robbery, burglary, narcotics and assault charges. The store employee sustained injuries that required medical attention.
