Surrounded by family, supporters and other elected officials, Elk Grove Vice Mayor Jim Cooper kicked-off his Assembly campaign yesterday morning from his Elk Grove headquarters.

Cooper, who is the sole remaining original Elk Grove City Council Member elected upon incorporation in 2000, is seeking to fill the Ninth California Assembly seat being vacated by Dr. Richard Pan. Although there are five candidates for the seat, political handicappers expect Cooper and fellow Democrat Sacramento City Council Member Darrell Fong to advance out of the June primary to November's general election.

Speaking to the supporters and volunteers for the day's precinct walk, Cooper noted the team effort needed to win the district which ranges from Sacramento city south to Lodi.

"Nobody ever get things done by themselves," he told the gathering.

Among elected officials on hand were Sacramento County Supervisor Jimmy Yee, Cosumnes Community Services District Director Rod Brewer and Elk Grove Unified School District Trustee Bobbie Singh-Allen. Elk Grove Planning Commissioner Nancy Chaires, who is running for the Elk Grove City Council, was also among supporters on hand.

"Once again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you so much," Cooper said. "The way we get over the finish line and win this race is with you."
