Although his intentions to run for the California State Assembly have been known for over one year, Elk Grove Vice Mayor Jim Cooper will formally kick-off his campaign this Saturday morning in Elk Grove.

Cooper, who is a Captain in the Sacramento Sheriffs' Department and the sole remaining charter Elk Grove City Council Member, is running for the Assembly's Ninth District seat that is being vacated by Dr. Richard Pan.

The five-person race includes Cooper and fellow Democrats Sacramento City Council Member Darrell Fong and Sacramento City Unified School District Trustee Diane Rodriguez and Republicans Manuel Martin and Tim Gorsulowsky. The top two finishers in the June primary, regardless of party affiliation, will advance to the November general election.

Cooper's event will be held at 8234 Laguna Blvd., Suite 130, Elk Grove, and starts at 9:30 a.m. More information is available here

Cooper can't even win an endorsement from the South Dem Club. As Vice Mayor, this shows his lack of influence and approval from the local club.
