In what is developing into an interesting race for Elk Grove's city council District 4 seat between Elk Grove Planning Commissioner Nancy Chaires and Elk Grove Unified School District Trustee Steve Ly, one of the candidates recently announced several key endorsements of their candidacy from members of the area's Asian Pacific Islander community.

Elk Grove Planning Commissioner Nancy Chaires announced she has received several endorsements, most notable among them being Sacramento County Supervisor Jimmie Yee.

Others endorsing Chaires include Dr. Tom Bhe, Vice-President of Public Relations of Asian Pacific Islander Public Affairs Association (APAPA) and former campaign chairman for Steve Ly for School Board 2002, Felicia Bhe, Chair of Asian Americans for Good Government PAC, Dr. Sonney Chong, Chair of Council of Asian Pacific Islanders Together for Advocacy and Leadership (CAPITAL), Stephanie Nguyen, Executive Director, Asian Resources Inc. and Rocky Vang, Hmong Community Leader, business owner, Elk Grove resident.

The next endorsement test for Chaires and Ly will be next Tuesday's Elk Grove-South County Democratic Club meeting. At that meeting, where membership in recent months has swelled in part by interest in this race and the Democratic races between Richard Pan and Roger Dickinson for the State Senate and Jim Cooper and Darrell Fong for Assembly, members are expected to issue an endorsement based on a popular vote of due-paying members.

Next week's meeting will be held at the Elk Grove Public Library and is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. Only due-paying members of the club who are in attendance can vote on the District 4 endorsement.

What is interesting about it?
Support for Ly is virtually non-existent... Exception being the incestuous Capitol Campaign stable of harebrained goofballs. Wake me up when a real contender steps in the ring. Nancy is going to rope-a-dope this clown all day, every day.
