Nancy Chaires and Steve Ly have announced major labor union endorsements in their race for the Elk Grove City Council. The two Democrats, along with Daniel Jimenez and Nayyar Sarfaraz, are vying to fill the District 4 seat being vacated by Bob Trigg.

Ly, a trustee with the Elk Grove Unified School District announced he has received the endorsement of The Sacramento-Sierra Building and Construction Trades Council, which is comprised of 25 construction trade unions.

“Steve is a strong leader who is committed to moving Elk Grove City forward,” Kevin Ferreira, Executive Director of the Council said in the endorsement announcement. “Steve stands up for Elk Grove working families and is the best candidate to lead job creation and business revitalization efforts in this city.”

Chaires, a current member of the Elk Grove Planning Commission, announced the endorsement of The Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 256, the largest labor organization representing transit workers in the Sacramento region. ATU 256 represents over 1,300 workers, many of them in the Elk Grove Unified School District.

"The ATU 256 is proud to endorse Nancy Chaires for Elk Grove City Council because she has demonstrated a commitment to public service, and to fair, open-minded decision making,” ATU President Ralph Niz said in the endorsement announcement. “Her over six years of experience engaging the public as a member of Elk Grove Planning Commission, and always making decisions with the best interest of residents in mind will make her a strong representative for Elk Grove.”

A little translation is in order:

Ly - “Steve is a strong leader who is committed to moving Elk Grove City forward,” Kevin Ferreira, Executive Director of the Council said in the endorsement announcement. “Steve stands up for Elk Grove working families and is the best candidate to lead job creation and business revitalization efforts in this city.”

Google translation = let's build more rooftops and get that SOI pushed through.
