When Elk Grove's Trail Committee meets on Monday night, they will hear an update on stakeholder meetings regarding a controversial proposed interchange project.

The project is the Whitelock Parkway-Highway 99 interchange that has been under consideration for a year. A portion of a proposed is on the northwest corner of the Elk Grove Regional Park.

Since the project surfaced, a number of Elk Grove residents have expressed alarm that the proposed interchange could eat up several acres of the park. The city has suggested there could be ways to mitigate effects to the park including realigning Highway 99 to the west, or only having entrance and exits on the west side Highway 99.

According to the agenda, the update will be given by trail committee members Mark Doty and Mendenhall. A search of the city's website did not reveal if the stakeholders meeting have been conducted.

The meeting will be held at the Elk Grove City Council Chambers and starts at 6:30.
