 A Sacramento man is in custody after he allegedly attempted to shoplift a camcorder.

According to Elk Grove Police, 36-year old Lawrence Gerald Smith of Sacramento was observed shoplifting a $1,700 camcorder at the Best Buy on West Stockton Boulevard. When confronted by a store employee, Smith reportedly fled on foot but was located a short distance away by responding officers.

Smith was booked into the county jail and is being held on a $85,000 bail but is ineligible for release.
