In Modesto there are two ballot measures voters considered today that are relevant to issues facing Elk Grove - a sales tax increase and a growth limiting initiative.

Measure I which would place specific growth limits on Modesto is currently leading. With 44-percent of precints reporting, Yes is ahead by a 50.45 to 49.55.

Meaure G, which would increase Modesto sales taxes 1/2-cent to fund public safety is being defeat. With 44-percent of precints reporting, No votes lead by a 54.74 to 45.66-percent. Sales taxes increases require a two-thirds percent majority.

Elk Grove recently expended $47,000 for polling to see if local voters would support increasing a sales tax increase to fund numerous discreationary projects including a Veterans hall, senior center and a soccer field and professional-grade soccer stadium.
