Elk Grove Man Arrested After Allegedly Head-butting Police Officer

March 1, 2016 |

An Elk Grove man allegedly head-butted an officer as they were attempting to take him into custody.

The incident started yesterday afternoon after Elk Grove Police were dispatched to the Extended Stay America Hotel on Longport Court regarding a man trespassing in the lobby. Earlier in the day 47-year old Richard Noel Kirby (pictured above) had been contacted and informed that he was not allowed on the property.

When officers arrived, they were advised that Kirby had damaged multiple pamphlet displays. Kirby was detained and escorted outside.

As Kirby was being placed in into handcuffs, he actively resisted the officers efforts to handcuff him and during a brief struggle head-butted an officer. The suspect was eventually taken in custody and booked into the county jail.

Kirby is being held on $50,000 bail and is facing two misdemeanor and two felony charges including battery against a peace officer. He is scheduled for arraignment on Wednesday afternoon.

Was he drunk or on drugs?
