Elk Grove's Greater Than 3 Meeting – Let’s Talk!

By Connie Conley | April 4, 2016 |

Have you ever spoken at an Elk Grove City Council meeting and wanted an opportunity to rebut or ask a question after the Council deliberated on a matter important to you?  Have you ever wanted to ask a question about an agenda item, but couldn’t because public comment was closed?  Well, here’s your chance!

Do you have questions for our elected officials but haven’t had the chance to attend a council meeting or feel it daunting to approach the podium at public comment?  This is the informal forum for you to have direct contact with our city’s leaders along with other community members on issues important to you, your neighbors and our city as a whole.

Public comment at Elk Grove City Council meetings are set up as such that after you have your three minutes at the podium, unless there are questions, comments and/or retorts from the dais, the discussion ends there.  You can’t go back and say another word.  [That is unless you know an old trick that isn’t used any longer.]

Most recently, public comment has related to issues of great importance to residents such as the sales tax survey, road maintenance, public safety, roundabouts and the animal shelter.

New discussion of late includes the proposed Costco at the corner of Bruceville Road and Elk Grove Blvd. and ongoing discussion includes the aquatics center, the Southeast Policy Area (SEPA), the Sphere of Influence (SOI), the youth sports complex, the Capital Southeast Connector -- what its affect will be on the town of Sheldon and Grant Line Road -- and of course. . . .the outlet mall.

It is time for a town hall meeting whereby residents and elected/appointed leaders can come together to have discussion on issues that matter to all of us.  We can hear each other’s viewpoints and theirs.

The town hall meeting will be coordinated so that attendees will put their chosen topics on a card along with their name – if they so choose.  We only ask that civility and decorum be present throughout the meeting.

The town hall meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a meet ‘n greet reception. Heavy appetizers will be served.  We will end the evening with raffle.

We may not solve all of Elk Grove’s issues in two hours, but at least we will have broken ground on having an open forum where a buzzer doesn’t stop you dead in your thoughts!

Every campaign season, Herr Davis rolls out these publicity stunts and then they die on the vine after the election is over. Those famous park clean-up photo days, those neighborhood forums, the small business owner's group, the centralized non-profit contribution website...need I go on?

Now mayoral candidate Bee Spease jumps in with his Listening Tour road show, so Kevin Johnson Junior feels like he must counter with something along those lines too.

I am a sucker for new ideas, but eventually one of them has to amount to something. We paid a million dollars for Zaha Hadid blueprints that might be a hot collector's item on e-bay; we paid for a hayfield that might turn into an expensive playground for soccer kids (call me a pessimist, but I'm thinking the MLS deal might possibly be dead?); Laguna Ridge residents paid for half a waterpark that may or may not attract Olympic swimmers; the taxpayer giveaway for minimum wage circuit board jobs will probably not be revealed until after the election; and over the weekend, I saw a presumably new E-tran repair truck with no less than than two air-compressors mounted in back (for blowing a lot of hot air I presume).

This "Greater Than Three" name is mighty quippy, but hopefully it doesn't mean the number of terms this man serves as mayor. Nothing personal, but we deserve more than unfinished projects and smoke and mirrors.

Spease says "politicians don't listen" and suddenly Davis is "listening?"
Give me a break. We're not that stupid... nothing more than an election year ruse. Davis was THE ONLY person who could grant anyone the opportunity to speak more than 3 minutes at the dais for the last 3 1/2 years... THE ONLY ONE. Instead, he cuts off Mike Monasky and interrupts the trails guy. Now, he's listening? Please, don't insult our intelligence.

I see Spease at almost every event I go to - really approachable guy. He listens to what I have to say and helps me find the right person to talk to. Davis? When do you see him? Only at council. Ly? He shows up to thinks with his photogrpaer but leaves promptly after his name is announced. At least Detrick and Darren show up and stay.
Davis... forgeddaboudit.

You're right Anon 12:21, we're not that stupid. Obviously you and 12:33 are one in the same and a Spease plant. Structure the same and to close together in time. Piece of advice.....spread it out a bit when posting. And this advice is brought to you by someone who is not a Davis syncophant.

Davis is a pretty smart cookie--gets EGCC to the all the leg work and organizing for the event, and EGN to do the marketing and news write-up after its over. The royal highness gets to stroll in after everything is set up, put on the show, then stroll out. Hail to the Chief.
