May 2, 2016 |

As the May 22 deadline for voter registration for the June 7 California Primary Election quickly approaching, the Sacramento County Registrar of Voters is reporting a surge in new registrations.

As of Jan. 21, 2016, the County’s total number of registered voters was 675,507. With almost three weeks until the deadline, there are now 697,218 voters registered in Sacramento County.

“We’ve seen big increases daily in the number of registered voters,” June LaVine, Sacramento County Voter Registrar of Voters said. “The numbers are impressive, and it’s encouraging to see this renewed interest in voting and the upcoming elections.”

Breakdown of registered Sacramento County voters by political party as of April 28:

Democrat: 303,082
Republican: 206,622
American Independent: 21,464
Green: 3,478
Libertarian: 5,240
Peace and Freedom: 5,267
No Party Preference: 152,065

“Residents must be registered to vote 15 days prior to an election, so we urge anyone who hasn’t done so to take action,” LaVine noted.

Registering or re-registering can be done online or by completing a Voter registration card
