Elk Grove Police Arrest Man Suspected of Illegally Firing Handgun

An Elk Grove man is being held at the Sacramento County Jail after he allegedly illegally fired a handgun.

Late Friday night Elk Grove Police responded to the 9100 block of Lujan Drive after receiving calls of a person firing shots into the air from a vehicle. Responding officers located a vehicle fitting the description being driven by 20-year old Nicholas Christensen of Elk Grove and initiated an enforcement stop.

Christensen, and his passenger, 18-year old Tanner Fitzhugh of Madera, Calif., were detained. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a loaded handgun in the center console of the vehicle that police determined Fitzhugh had discharged.

Christensen was issued a misdemeanor citation and released while Fitzhugh was arrested, booked into the county jail and is being held on $25,000 bail for two felony charges. Arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
