As Christmas Approaches Elk Grove Police Arrests Suspects For Shoplifting, Impaired Driving

With the three day Christmas holiday weekend approaching, Elk Grove Police were kept busy dealing with suspected shoplifters and impaired drivers.

During the 24-hours ending at midnight, on Thursday, December 21, police arrested two suspects on suspicion of shoplifting and two for impaired driving. Another person was taken into custody on an active arrest warrant.

Syera Joyce Dilworth, 19, of Elk Grove after she allegedly shoplifted merchandise from the Target store on Laguna Boulevard. Dilworth was booked into the county jail and has been released.

The second shoplifting arrest was at the Home Depot on West Stockton Boulevard when Gerald Ackerman, allegedly attempted a fraudulent transaction. When the suspect was approached by store personnel, he reportedly took an aggressive stance.

Responding police officers found Ackerman in front of the store where he was placed under arrests. Ackerman was booked into the county jail and has been released. 

At 2 a.m. patrol officer contacted Christopher Newcomb, 36, of Rancho Cordova on the 8800 block of Wood Lily Way where he was reportedly found asleep at the wheel. Newcomb was allegedly found in possession of prescription medications that were not in his name, displayed objective signs of impairment and was taken into custody.

Shortly after 7 p.m. police responded to the intersection of Bruceville Road and Laguna Boulevard where one motorist, Edward Brown, 46, of Elk Grove was involved in an accident with another vehicle. Upon contact Brown allegedly displayed objective signs of impairment, failed a field sobriety test, and was arrested.  

Just before 2 p.m. police contacted Eric Allen Roberts, 36, of Elk Grove during a call for service on the 8500 block of Elk Grove Boulevard. Roberts was taken into custody after a records check revealed there was a warrant for his arrest, booked into the county jail and released.
