Suspected Cell Phone Snatcher Apprehended by Elk Grove Police, Held on $50,000 Bail

A probationer suspected of snatching an unattended cell phone is in custody at the Sacramento County Jail.

According to Elk Grove Police reports,  Ceyhun Tanyar Smith (pictured above), 30, of Elk Grove entered a business on the 8500 block of Bond Road, stole an unattended cell phone and fled on foot. Responding officers were quickly located Smith a short distance away and detained him.

A records search showed that Smith was on probation and a search led to the retrieval of the stolen device. Smith is being held on a $50,000 bail for felony grand theft and probation charges and will be arraigned on Wednesday, January 10.
