CCSD candidate Jaclyn Moreno part of KQED's 'The Long Run' series on women candidates; mentioned in yesterday's broadcast

August 16, 2018 |

In the aftermath of the 2016 elections, nationwide there has been a surge of women candidates seeking office up and down the ballot. This development is not only evident in California, but Elk Grove has likewise experienced an increase in women candidates seeking elected office.

Along with Tracie Stafford who is hoping to become Elk Grove's first directly elected female mayor, another early entrant in Elk Grove was Jaclyn Moreno who is seeking one of the two open seats on the Cosumnes Community Services District board of directors. Moreno was selected to be part of a series created by public radio station KQED in San Francisco (KQIE in Sacramento) called "The Long Run."

Produced by KQED reporter Katie Orr, the series looks at women candidates, many of them first-time candidates, and chronicles their experiences on the campaign trail. Moreno was mentioned twice on yesterday's Forum program about the reporting project. (Audio posted below).

Although many of the candidates, according to Orr, face long odds, Moreno has outpaced the other three candidates seeking the office in fundraising, including CCSD incumbent Rod Brewer. Along with Moreno, one of the other female candidate seeking a CCSD seat is Koi Rivers.

Other Elk Grove-based women seeking office include Stephanie Nguyen who is running for a full four-year term on the Elk Grove City Council following her 2017 appointment to fill a vacancy in District 4. More recently Angela Spease filed paperwork for her candidacy seeking an open seat on the Sacramento Municipal Utility District Board of Directors.

The entire segment on women candidates on yesterday's Forum program can be heard here.
