Probationer with arrest warrant in custody after alleged theft of donation jar in Elk Grove

A Brentwood, California man is in custody at the Sacramento County Jail after he allegedly tried stealing a donation jar.

Just before 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 18, Matthew Blair Townsend, 18, took a donation jar off a counter at a business on the 6700 block of Laguna Boulevard. When an employee confronted Townsend, he fled in a vehicle.

Responding Elk Grove Police officers located the described vehicle and detained Townsend. A record check showed he was on probation and had an outstanding arrest warrant.

Townsend is held on a $60,500 bail. Arraignment will be on Tuesday, August 21.
