Shooting investigation at Monterey Trails High leads to arrest of two suspects on unrelated warrants

October 15, 2018 |

In the course of investigating a shooting near Monterey Trails High, Elk Grove Police arrested two suspects with outstanding warrants not related to the shooting.

The shooting occurred near Auberry Drive and Holman Drive after a high school football game. EGPD and Sacramento County Sheriff deputies were wrapping up security services when they heard the gunshots.

The law enforcement officials found empty shell casings and notified area hospitals. A short time later one of the hospitals reported a victim came to the emergency room with a non-life threatening gun shot wound.

During their investigation, officers contacted a 17-year old male who provided a fictitious name. Officers learned the true identity of the juvenile and determined he had an active warrant for his arrest.

The other person taken into custody for an active arrest warrant was Tomani Zackery, 19, of Elk Grove.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call (916) 714-5115 or call Crime Stoppers (916) 443-HELP to remain anonymous.
