New Elk Grove street to be named in honor of fallen Vietnam War solider

A soldier from Elk Grove who died during the Vietnam War will be honored with the naming of a new street in his memory.

The street in a new housing development in East Elk Grove will be named after Pvt. Wayne Heintz. The street naming is part of the city's Veteran and Public Safety Street Naming Program, which "was created to recognize the number of individuals who have served our community and country."

Active in FFA activities at Elk Grove High School between 1960 and 1964 prior to his military service, Pvt. Heintz was killed in combat on June 10, 1968. Heintz' prior combat duty started on February 29 during the Tet Offensive.

A ceremony will be held on Wayne Heintz Street (approximate location here) in Elk Grove on Saturday, May 14 at 9:30 a.m. Along with members of the Heintz family, representatives from the City of Elk Grove will attend the ceremony.
