Before a spirited group of supporters, Maureen Craft formally announced her candidacy for the Elk Grove City Council. The announcement was made last night at a fundraising event sponsored by Elk Grove resident Connie Conley benefitting the Elk Grove-South County Democratic club.

About 100 supporters and party loyalist gathered at Logan's Restaurant in Elk Grove for the event which was highlighted by Craft's announcement. Craft, who filed her candidate paperwork with the Elk Grove city clerk last week, is running in 2020 for the District 3 seat of the Elk Grove City Council.

Craft ran for the District 3 seat against incumbent Steve Detrick in 2016. Although Detrick won that contest in 2016 earning his third term representing the district, he has not made any announcement whether or not he will seek reelection other than to say his job responsibilities with PG&E following the Camp Fire would be limiting his city council activities.

See Craft's announcement below.

Glad to see the 2020 election season has kicked off in Elk Grove! In order to be a better educated voter, I will be clinging to each candidates spoken words like a gummy bear on a molar!

Here's what I heard in this speech:

"what I want to do is bring Elk Grove together".
"make this a strong community".
"make sure that we're all working together".

Got it.
