Election Updates - Races of local interest

Below are current totals of several races of interest in Elk Grove. Note even though all precincts have reported, not all ballots have been counted.

In the races for U.S. Congress and California Assembly, incumbents Ami Bera and Jim Cooper respectively easily won first place and each will face Republican challengers in November.

U.S. Congressional District 7

Incumbent Dr. Ami Bera (D) will face challenger Buzz Patterson (R) in November.

9th California Assembly

Incumbent Jim Cooper (D - Elk Grove) will face challenger Eric Rigard (R) in November.

Sacramento City Council - District 4

The most interesting city council race in Sacramento is for District 4 where Democratic incumbent Steve Hansen is being challenged by fellow party member Katie Valenzuela. Although not all the votes have been counted, Valenzuela has widened her lead over Hansen since the first tallies were reported last night.

Valenzuela currently has 53 to Hansen's 47-percent according to the latest results from Sacramento County. As this is a two-person race, this winner will be seated on the Sacramento City Council.
