Suspect tries stealing $1,500 of booze, dog treats lands in jail

Perhaps in a move to stock-up for the shelter in place order, a suspected robber was apprehended as he started his getaway after his heist of alcoholic beverages.

According to the Placer County Sheriff's Department, a deputy sheriff was patrolling the Raley's shopping center in Loomis last week when the store manager waved him down. The manager told the deputy he watched Abran Alvarez, 27, of North Highlands, walk out of the store without paying for his shopping cart full of alcohol.

The deputy approached Alvarez’s car where he was loading the stolen goods. Between the car and grocery cart, the deputy found $1,500 worth of stolen items, including over 35 bottles of alcohol, doggie treats, and other items.

Alvarez was arrested and booked at the Auburn Jail with bail set at $20,000.
