During today's COVID19 press briefing by Gov, Gavin Newsom, new restrictions were issued intended to control spiking cases.
Most notably, Newson ordered the closure of interior dining in 19 California counties, including Sacramento. According to Newson, the 19 counties affected make up 70-percent of California's population.
Establishments in nearby Roseville, West Sacramento and El Dorado Hills are not affected as Yolo, El Dorado and Placer counties respectively are not under the order.
Since restrictions have been eased in the last several weeks, the number of COVID cases statewide have increased. The largest increase has been experienced in Southern California counties, although there has been an uptick statewide.
Newson also restricted indoor activities like zoos and museums, movie theaters, family entertainment centers, wine tasting rooms, and card rooms. He also said his administration is communicating with tribal gaming entities who are not under state jurisdiction.
Additionally, the governor recommended counties affected by the order consider canceling firework displays and discouraging family gatherings. Elk Grove will hold an Independence Day firework display at an undisclosed location.
The City of Elk Grove has been contacted regarding their planned fireworks show and as of 1 p.m., has not responded to a request inquiring if there are plans to cancel the display.
The City of Elk Grove has released the following statement:
"We are aware of the Governor’s latest guidance and we are evaluating our plans and attempting to consult with the county health officer. We will notify our community of any changes to our plans as soon as possible."
