With the November 2020 elections two months in the past, several potential candidates are positioning themselves for the November 2022 general election. Among those eying electoral opportunities in 2022 is Cosumnes Community Services District Director Jaclyn Moreno.
This morning Moreno confirmed she will run for the Sacramento County Board of Supervisor District 5 seat. That seat is currently occupied by Don Nottoli.
In an email response confirming her candidacy, Moreno said, "Yes, I’m running for BOS, District 5. I will be making a public announcement March 1st."
Nottoli has served as the District 5 representative since defeating Kate Albiani in 1994. Since then, Nottoli, who resides in Galt, has received token challengers and, during several election cycles, was unchallenged.
Although Nottoli has not announced his intentions for 2022, he is not expected to seek an eighth four-year term. Nottoli succeeded Toby Johnson, who he served as chief of staff and was a school board member in Galt before his election to the Board of Supervisors.
Elected to the CCSD Board of Directors in 2018, Moreno, like many candidates in 2018, was motivated to run for office in opposition to the election of Donald Trump. Moreno came in first place for three open seats in 2018 ahead of two incumbents who were reelected.
Since joining the CCSD board, Moreno has led several efforts with the district that governs parks and recreation and firefighting services in Elk Grove and Galt. Among those efforts was a successful push to switch the five-member board's election from at-large to by-district.
Moreno filed her candidate intention statement with Sacramento County on December 31. As part of her 2022 supervisorial campaign, Moreno transferred $24,458 from her CCSD campaign fund.
