UPDATE Tuesday, November 9, 10:50 p.m. |
Former Elk Grove Mayor Steve Ly has announced a late afternoon press conference on Tuesday, November 9, at Elk Grove City Hall.
The announcement of the Facebook page for Asian American Civil Liberties & Anti-Defamation organization said Ly will "address Asian hate in Elk Grove." Ly recently formed The AACLAD with the stated purpose of combatting anti-Asian hate nationally.
Although the announcement did not offer specifics of what Ly would address, it includes links to stories from different outlets, including Elk Grove News, about complaints filed by another group calling themselves Elk Grove Hmong American against current Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen and Councilmember Stephanie Nguyen. The complaints were submitted to the California Fair Political Practices Commission and the Sacramento County Grand Jury.
Ly was first elected to the Elk Grove City Council in 2014 and was elected mayor in 2016 and 2018. Last year he lost a hard-fought battle to Singh-Allen that included scurrilous allegations directed at both candidates.
Ly's press conference will be held rain or shine at 5 p.m. More information on the event is available on the AACLAD Facebook page.
