Things escalate between Ashby, Jones in 8th District California State Senate race
The top two contenders for the 8th District California State Senate race escalated today with another attack mailer sent to voters.
In the first of her campaign, Sacramento City Councilmember Angelique Ashby directly attacked her main opponent, former California Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones. Ashby, Jones, and Rafa Garcia, all Democrats, are competing for the open seat in the June primary.
Ashby says, "Career Politician Dave Jones will say and do anything to win his smear campaign in her four-page mailer." The mailer also has an image of Ashby with paint splatters asking, "Why is Dave Jones trying to smear Angelique Ashby?"
This piece is Ashby's first mailer attacking Jones, who has tried painting her as a tool for big oil based on the support she has received from the independent expenditure committee, Californians For Job and a Strong Economy. That group has major funding from companies like Chevron and Valero and has launched an extensive negative campaign against Jones.
With Jones and Ashby the expected top two finishers in the June primary, this is undoubtedly not the last negative mailers voters will receive from these campaigns over the next several months.
