Nguyen acknowledges strong position in District 10 California Assembly race with 'Onward to November' campaign update
As one of five candidates in the hotly contested race, Nguyen is in first place with 9,441 votes for 33.41-percent. The next closest candidate is Nguyen's fellow Democrat Eric Guerra, who has 7,561 votes for 26.83-percent. Following closely in third place is Republican Eric Rigard with 7,511 voters for 26.66-percent.
In her statement Nguyen said:
"It hasn’t been an easy campaign. Despite all the difficulties, the results from the Primary elections say it loud and clear - our community wants someone who can fight for us at the California State Legislature. While there are many votes still left to be counted, I’m extremely thankful and very humbled to receive the most votes among the Assembly District 10 candidates."
Nguyen's current first place status has taken some political observers by surprise. Not only did she enter the race relatively late compared to Guerra, she has been targeted by a hundred thousand dollar-plus independent expenditure committee attack advertising campaign by the California Association of Realtors.
Given the volatile nature of voting tallies, Nguyen only casually mentioned her first place status. However, the email title and her closing statement saying "I respectfully ask for your continued support for us to finish strong in November" indicates Nguyen's confidence she will advance to the general election.
The next update from Sacramento County Elections will be released at 4 p.m. tomorrow.
