Hume called a Trump Republican who opposes fair elections by group supporting Moreno
A mailer sent by an independent expenditure committee opposing Sacramento County Board of Supervisor District 5 candidate Pat Hume calls him a Trump Republican. Hume, a Republican Elk Grove City Councilmember, is facing Democrat Cosumnes Community Services District Director Jaclyn Moreno.
With the headline “Donald Trump isn’t the only one who opposed expanding voting rights” the copy includes quotes from ABC News, CNBC, and the Washington Post citing the former president’s opposition to voting rights and claims of election rigging. It then says, “Republican Supervisor candidate Pat Hume opposes fair and equal elections, too.”
On the reverse side, it references when the City of Elk Grove switched from at-large city council elections to its current by-district process. At the time, Elk Grove changed after being threatened with an expensive lawsuit asserting the city violated the California Voters Rights Act of 2001.
At the time of the switch in 2019, except for former Elk Grove Mayor Steve Ly, Hume, along with former Councilmember Steve Detrick and current members Stephanie Nguyen and Darren Suen, strenuously opposed the more democratic by-district elections. When they voted on the change, Hume was the sole city council member who opposed the switch.
As Elk Grove’s most prominent Republican, Hume has remained silent on reproductive rights, marriage equality, and the Trump-led January 6 insurrection. Hume has, however, addressed climate change by calling it voodoo science (see video below).
