According to documents from the Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC), the City of Sacramento and Councilmember and State Senate District 8 candidate are the subject of an investigation. The investigation is over the use of the city's luxury box at Golden One Arena.
As reported by the Sacramento Bee, Ashby allegedly gifted the city's luxury box at Golden One for the Roger Waters concert to members of the Sacramento-Sierra Building ad Construction Trades Council. The trade union is supporting Ashby, who is in a pitched battle for State Senate District 8 with former Assembly member and Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones.
As reported by the Bee, the luxury boxes "that it uses to give tickets to nonprofit organizations." See the entire Bee report below.
Ashby was criticized by fellow Democrats for giving tickets to the group which makes significant political contributions. Although many trade union members who attended the concert were Ashby supporters, the Bee reports there were Jones supporters in attendance as well.
In a letter dated November 4 to Sacramento City Manager Hoard Chan, the FPPC Enforcement Division said an investigation based on the Bee's reporting had been initiated. The complaint was filed on November 2, and a response from the city is due by November 18.
