During the Wednesday, December 11, 2023, Elk Grove City Council meeting, city manager Jason Behrmann reported on the city's response to early January storms that have widespread effects in California.

The storms that started around New Year's day have pounded the state and caused flooding in Sacramento County. Along with many residents experiencing power outages, Elk Grove residents have experienced some flooded roadways and hundreds of down trees.

"We've been working closely with our partners in the county, the Cosumnes Community Services District, and other responders to address the rains, the high wind, and all the associated damages with that storm," Behrmann told the Elk Grove City Council. "Our public works department had 423 requests for service since the storms began."

Behrmann said a third were for down trees and another third for localized flooding. Other calls were for a variety of hazards.

To assist in cleanup, Behrmann said residents can contact the city's contracted garbage collector, Republic Services, and request free bulky waste pickups. Customers can also request a second green waste container.

Additionally, debris can be disposed of at the city's special waste collection center located at 9255 Disposal Lane.

"As we continue forward, remind the public to be safe, and call us when there are needs, and we have people ready to respond," Berhmann added.

For additional storm debris removal assistance, call Republic at 916-635-2500.
