Sacramento Housing Alliance to the City of Elk Grove - The State IS Serious About Affordable Housing!

As 1960s Detroit AM disc jockeys were fond of saying when they qued up another Motown or British Invasion hit record, And The Hits Keep On Coming! (Hear that DJ clip from here)

For the city of Elk Grove, the hits keep on coming, but not in the same way the big-voice DJs would proclaim when announcing the latest from Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Diana Ross and the Supremes or the Yardbirds. Instead, the city suffered another body blow in a widely distributed email from the Sacramento Housing Alliance.

Titled The State IS Serious About Affordable Housing, the city of Sacramento agency praised the threatened lawsuit against the city by California Attorney General Rob Bonta. The threat came after the attorney general's office opined that Elk Grove intentionally discriminated against the Oak Rose supporting housing project and broke state fair housing laws.

The lawsuit was revealed late last week when Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen received a letter from the attorney general's office. The letter said if the city did not take action to correct what they said was a violation of the law, the state would file a lawsuit against the city.

The letter from the SHA can be viewed below. Click on the image to enlarge.

To borrow a phrase from an old buddy of mine, the City's defensive response that Oak Rose has been "unresponsive" in efforts to negotiate an alternative site is "WEAK SAUCE". Why should Oak Rose have to sit down and bargain away their land when they hold all the legal cards? The City's spin doctors publicly attempting to turn the tables on Oak Rose is about as polished as watching Mister Bojangles 'sing a song and dance for us with worn out shoes'. And the hits just keep on coming!

As the injustice keeps coming but what is over looked is Elk Grove cities willingness to address our cities homeless and the lack of homeless response which they live in horrible conditions in Sacramento city and Sacramento county outside city limits that surrounds the city of Sacramento. Sadly political finger pointing and gamesmanship continues.

No one is talking about Sacramento, Sacramento County, or any action that has or has not taken place in the city of Elk Grove surrounding homelessness. The letter simply states that Elk Grove broke the law on this case and this case alone.

Exactly no one is talking about Sacramento city or county so why the finger pointing by elected officials towards Elk Grove and not the other 2 for their non conformant. Because this is a for profit business is Elk Grove the target for these types of businesses all over our city? We have the dirt, is Sacramento looking for away to off load their responsibilities? I find it interesting that Elk Grove is trying and offering to be involved in our homeless issue’s but it is not fair when the others are not under the same microscope. It’s political gamesmanship and Elk Grove is in their crosshairs WHY? I think the question needs to be answered.
