Voices of Elk Grove - EGUSD Trustee Chaires-Espinoza called a liar; Parent of LGBTQ+ student lauds the district

A parent of an Elk Grove Unified School District lauds the district for creating a safe environment for her child. |

For months, the Elk Grove Unified School District Board of Trustees has heard various complaints from parents and individuals criticizing library books and curriculum.

During the Tuesday, September 5 meeting, the comments continued with one speaker calling Trustee Nancy Chaires-Espinoza a liar. However, three speakers offered words of support to the district.

Commenting during public comment on non-agenda items, the speaker, who identified herself as Emelena, called Trustee Nancy Chaires-Espinoza a liar and could not be trusted.

Of note, a post that Emelena attributed to Chaires-Espinoza on social media was the basis of her comments. The referenced post could not be located on Chaires-Espinoza's Facebook, Instagram, or X [Twitter] accounts.

While the trustees have heard criticism for years, dating to the early stages of COVID-19 in 2020, more recently, many speakers have come to the defense of the district and trustees.

During Tuesday's meeting, three speakers pushed back on claims by groups like momarmy.elkgrove while lauding the district. One speaker during the meeting, who identified herself as Gandi, said she was the parent of an LGBTQ+ student.

After citing the attempts by these groups nationally and locally to ban books and subjugate LGBTQ+ students' rights, she lauded the district for creating a supportive environment for her child.
