Sacramento Zoological society tells supporters to email Elk Grove Planning Commissioners expressing 'enthusiastic support'

The Elk Grove Planning Commission will hold tomorrow night the first in a series of mandated meetings leading to what appears to be a pre-destined approval of the Sacramento Zoo's relocation project to Elk Grove.

Even though the city of Elk Grove has signaled that Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen and her city council will approve the project this spring or early summer, the Sacramento Zoological Society, the operator of the Sacramento Zoo, is leaving nothing to chance. An email sent yesterday afternoon by the SZS urges supporters to contact each of the five planning commissioners.

As part of the email (see image below), the SZS gave supporters a template to send the commissioners. Among other things, the template letter tells the commissioner that "I am writing to express my enthusiastic support for the proposed New Zoo project in Elk Grove" and "I reside in the [Neighborhood Name] neighborhood within Council District [District Number], and I have been proud to call Elk Grove my home for [Number of Years]."

All of the commissioners, who have either been nominated or reappointed by Singh-Allen, are expected to approve the plan. The only question that remains is whether this approval will be unanimous.

Interestingly, the email concludes saying "Together, we will build the next GREAT zoo!", but does not mention Elk Grove taxpayers.

The planning commission meeting is held in the Elk Grove City Council chambers and starts at 6 p.m.
