Almost every Elk Grove Mello Roos tax set to increase
Next week, the Elk Grove City Council will approve increased Mello Roos fees for six of the city's seven districts.
The city's finance staff has recommended increases ranging from .63 to 3.77 percent. Below is a table of the various increases.
Mello Roos fees, also known as community faculties districts, are additional taxes collected for specific purposes, such as road maintenance or law enforcement. These fees are an important part of our local tax system.
Elk Grove residents who own properties built before the city's incorporation in 2000 generally have no Mello Roos fees attached to their property tax. Similarly, depending on the year a dwelling was built post-incorporation, they have varying fees attached to their tax bill.
While Mello Roos districts are typically geographic, some expand as new housing developments are opened. An example is the Elk Grove Police Department Mello Roos fee (see above), which was initiated in 2003.
Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen and her city council will approve the tax increase during their Wednesday, May 22 meeting.
