Your Elk Grove taxpayer dollars at work!

Elk Grove economic development director Darrell Doan behaving like a dog on bone at the opening
of  the Slow and Low barbeque restaurant in Old Town-Historic Downtown Elk Grove. |

The city of Elk Grove produced this video promoting the city's newest restaurant, Slow and Low in Old Town-Historic Downtown Elk Grove.

For those who don't access Instagram, this was from the city's account on that social media platform. Taxpayers are undoubtedly happy to see our elected officials and city staffers enjoying the barbeque with such gusto, especially economic development director Darrell Doan, who was seen at the start of the video.

Were these meals complimentary, or did our elected officials and city staffers foot the bill? More importantly, could taxpayers guaranteeing the loan for this new eatery also pay for these meals?

Here is the other possibility of how taxpayers picked up the bill. Mr. Doan's department has received a huge influx of cash from the never ending bounty of Measure E. They expensed the meals, and possibly the alcoholic beverages, to the economic development department under the category of research or some such malarkey.

I wish city of Elk Grove City Manager Jason Behrmann would instruct his staff on how to behave in public when on the business of the city. Behrmann is always the modicum of decorum. His senior staff. . . not so much.

We all like free food! City staff gets more than their fair share, courtesy of the taxpayers, and those deep pockets doing business with the city. Yet, they can’t seem to wait to strap on the old feedbag.

Yet another embarrassing picture, of many, just like the one of a city staff’s spouse, next to a city of Elk Grove employee, flipping off the camera.

But then again, what can Behrmann do, when most of his five bosses are at events holding up their free cocktails for the camera? How many times have they had one too many and didn’t get caught like Council member Sergio Robles?

Doesn't look like that chow was slow and low. Maybe the cook ought to invest in a case or two of Adolph's Tenderizer.

Maybe it's time to look at the top. When a company has lost its way, the board of directors send the CEO packing and bring in some "fresh eyes". At City Hall it seems the buck just doesn't stop anywhere!

As usual, a total embarrassment from our city leaders. Seems the hits just never stop. The mayor wants EG to be a destination city, a city where people come from all over the country to visit...and this is what they see of us? Only people we'll attract are redneck idgits from Arkansas or Texas.

BTW, the meat certainly isn't fall off the bone tender. Thanks for the video review. I'll pass on Low & Slow.

At least Doan will now have *something* he can answer if asked what he has done in the last 7 years. He can say he took a bite of some BBQ and has the video to prove it!
