With less than two weeks until a filing deadline, Elk Grove's two-term mayor will not go unchallenged in the 2024 general election.
On Friday, July 27, Elk Grove resident Lynn Wheat drew nomination papers to run for Elk Grove Mayor. As of today, Wheat is incumbent mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen's only challenger.
Observers of Elk Grove City Council meetings and other government meetings, Wheat is a recognized figure for regularly commenting on matters of public interest. Ms. Wheat's commentaries and policy suggestions focus on smart land planning, the environment, taxation and fiscal issues, and good governance.
In addition to being a longtime advocate, Wheat has twice run for office in Elk Grove. In 2012, she was one of six candidates in the city's first directly elected mayoral contest, and in 2020, she ran in the first by-district race for Elk Grove City Council District 3.
Wheat could not be reached for comment on this story.

Thank you, Lynn! We need sound, responsible leadership for this city. You've been a leader of the people and their best interests for years now and the City has largely ignored you and your well thought-out concepts to make Elk Grove a better city for all of us. Let's hope you ideas next come from the other side of the dais. You have one vote here.
Thanks Lynn. I hope Mayor Bobbie doesn't take your candidacy serious. You can never tell what happens when a politician becomes complacent. Just ask Eric Cantor or Joe Crowley.
Lynn would be a great asset as mayor. Fiscally responsible, incredible knowledge of the city, its workings, history and its shortcomings. There’s not a better candidate to lead the city forward. Above all she’s ethical and honest. Haven’t seen that from our mayors in quite some time. Go get ‘em, girl! That’s 3 votes.
Former Mayor Gary Davis once said that every politician has a shelf life. So now with Lynn "Three Minute Limit" Wheat entering the race, Bobby "The Zoo" Singh Allen might have to spend some of her quarter-million dollar war chest money to extend her shelf life! Good luck Lynn!
