Reelection imminent for Elk Grove's 3 Ss? With nomination period now open Singh-Allen, Suen formally enter race

Monday, July 15, marked the start of the November 5, 2024 election. This Monday was the first-day candidates could pull nomination papers from the Elk Grove City Clerk.

Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen and District 1 Councilman Darren Suen wasted no time drawing their nomination papers. Singh-Allen is seeking her third two-year term, while Suen, who was a 2015 vacancy appointment, is seeking his third term reelection.

The other city council seat on this year's ballot is City Council District 3. Kevin Spease represents that district and has said he will seek his second four-year term.

As of noon today, Spease has not sought nomination papers, and his deadline is August 9. If Spease does not file by then, the filing period for candidates other than the incumbent is extended to August 14.

The Elk Grove City Clerk's webpage provides more information about the filing process.

Unlike previous Elk Grove City Council elections, the three Ss—Singh-Allen, Spease, and Suen - have no announced opponents and could run unopposed. If last-minute candidates enter the race, they will face an uphill battle against the Three Ss, given their overwhelming name recognition and, more significantly, colossal campaign war chests.
