A candidate for the Elk Grove Unified School District Area 6 seat recently received a big endorsement from an elected official who has become a local election influencer.
Jennifer Ballerini was endorsed in her bid to replace Nancy Chaires-Espinoza, who will not seek reelection, by Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen. Ballerini announced her candidacy on social media on June 29.
In her announcement, Singh-Allen said, "Jennifer Hunt Ballerini will make an excellent trustee. She is a retired district employee and former president of AFSCME. Let's go!"
According to biographical information on her campaign website, Ms. Ballerini is a retired EGUSD employee who held several positions over her 31-year career. During the last 10 years of her employment, she was President of AFSCME Local 258 and is currently a member of the Measure M oversight committee.
Before her election as mayor in 2020, Singh-Allen served for eight years on the Elk Grove Unified School District Board of Trustees. Since assuming her mayoral duties, Singh-Allen has significantly influenced local elections in Elk Grove, shaping the political landscape.
Singh-Allen was instrumental in the 2022 elections of Rod Brewer and Sergio Robles to the Elk Grove City Council and Michael Vargas to the EGUSD Board of Trustees. In addition to being instrumental in the election of the three men, Singh-Allen has mentored them.
While Singh-Allen has been influential in Elk Grove elections, her influence has not extended to candidates outside city limits. In the 2024 Sacramento mayoral primary, Singh-Allen enthusiastically endorsed former Sacramento City Councilmember Steve Hansen (see video below), who was last in the four-candidate race.
