Jacqueline Ortiz and Jennifer Ballerini are competing to replace Nancy Chaires-Espinoza, who decided against seeking another term. For the six months ending June 30, only Ortiz has received campaign contributions.
According to her California Form 460 filed with Sacramento County Voter Registration and Elections, Ortiz raised $3,985. All the contributions were from individuals, with Cathy Rudder being the largest donor, giving the campaign $2,500.
Conversely, as of June 30, Ballerini had not received any contributions. While campaign contributions are meager for both, given each candidate's different focus, money could flow into their coffers.
Chaires-Espinoza, EGUSD Area 2 Trustee Michael Vargas, Area 4 trustee Gina Jamerosn, Area 7 Trustee Carmina Forcina, Elk Grove City Councilmember Darren Suen, and Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen have endorsed Ballerini. With those endorsements and likely support from EGUSD collective bargaining units, money will likely flow into her campaign.
For her part, Ortiz is aligned with conservative causes. Among her endorsements is Roseville Unified School District Trustee Jonathan Jonathan Zachreson, a Roseville Unified School District Trustee. Zachreson, who heads the Protect Kids California group, has been intimately involved in the so-called student transgender-outing movement that is illegal in California but legal in several conservative states.
Ortiz is also endorsed by former Elk Grove Mayor Gary Davis, a leading proponent of charter schools.
