A video posted on social media shows Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen speaking at a rally supporting Palestinians affected by the war in Gaza.
The video was recorded on January 27, 2024. The location was unmentioned, but there were hashtags for Elk Grove and Sacramento. The video appears to have captured only a portion of her presentation during the pro-Palestinian rally.
While her four Elk Grove city councilmen have not commented on the controversy, Singh-Allen, along with these comments, has signaled support during city council meetings this year.
During a presentation at the May 22, 2024 Elk Grove City Council meeting recognizing May 2024 as Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Mayor Singh-Allen's response to an honoree's comments implied her support for Palestinians caught in the Gaza-Israel war.
Singh-Allen responded to comments from Ms. Khydeeja Alam, executive director of the California Commission on Asian and Pacific Islander American Affairs (CAPIAA). Ms. Alam said Elk Grove "is home to many who have lost loved ones in Gaza and Palestine" and asked the mayor and city council if "they have showed up in solidarity?"
The Elk Grove City Council has avoided the conflicts that ensnared the Sacramento City Council at repeated meetings since the conflict erupted almost one year ago. Activists pressured Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg, a close ally of Singh-Allen, and his city council, demanding they pass resolutions calling for a cease fire and condemning Israel for their military actions in Gaza following the October 7 kidnapping and killings by Palestine-based Hamas at a music festival in Israel.

Why was the mayor donning sunglasses? It didn't appear to be a particularly sunny day.
Given her diplomacy skills, maybe Mayor Bobbie is angling for a diplomatic posting if Harris win the presidential race. The Mayor can be ambassador to Stockton!
Why doesn't Mayor 'Gimme More Votes' Bobbie stick to humanitarian issues right here in our City and check out the bridge underpasses along our creeks? Oh that's right, the City Council plans to pass an ordinance Wednesday night making unlawful camping a misdemeanor.
Hey, maybe Mayor 'It's all about the animals' Bobbie can find a little space on the Savannah of our new $300 million zoo for our human residents!
I wonder how her dear Jewish friends Mayor Darrell Steinberg and Sacramento City Councilmember Lisa Kaplan feel about this?
