Letter to the editor - Who will not get my vote for Elk Grove mayor

Letter to the editor |

Re: Elk Grove Mayoral race

Yesterday, I received a postcard personally addressed to me from Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen asking for my vote.

continued below
As a proud naturalized American citizen, I fully intend to exercise my right to vote in the upcoming mayoral election. However, until now, I haven't made my selection for mayor. The mayor asked for my vote based on my Filipino heritage by showing other Filipinos supporting her.

How insulting!

Mayor Singh-Allen, do you think showing a few other people who share my Filipino ancestry is reason enough to vote for you? Her view of why I vote for one candidate over another is disrespectful, and it’s bigotry at its lowest form and assumes all Filipinos think alike, unable to make our own decisions independently.

As I said, until receiving this postcard, I was undecided on who to vote for mayor. I can now say that I will not vote for Singh-Allen.

I am most certainly proud of my Filipino heritage but am now a proud American citizen. Mayor Singh-Allen, please treat me like an American - I deserve nothing less.

The writer/voter asked that their identity not be revealed. The voter's name on the postcard image below has been blurred at their request, but their identity has been verified.

Looks like she pulled that one out of the Donald J Trump playbook. She and everyone of her campaign leaders thought this was okay and not totally disrespectful? This is who she is. She's about herself, not about the citizens. She just gave herself a 320% raise! Time for a change!

I wonder if she sent a similar mailer to Hmong voters in Elk Grove!

African-American voters?
LBTQ voters?
BYW- why is her campaign office on Madison Ave in Sacramento and not in Elk Grove, where we might reap some revenue? How is that looking out for Elk Grove?
Talk about self-absorbed. BSA is blind.

Seeing that a Filipino is running against her, the insecure Mayor probably sees this as an attempt to steal votes from him, and as the author points out, reveals her belief that everyone votes by their skin color. How insulting!

The Mayor has been playing identity politics for as long as she has been in public office. Based on her social media posts, her wardrobe closet contains everything from a dashiki, blue jeans with cowboy hat, to highly embellished Hmong ceremonial costumes. Get real! You are a former Republican who attends grand openings and posts big signs.

Ms. Singh-Allen's attempt to neutralize Mr. Pastor's supposed advantage with Filipino voters is at best, ham-handed. At it's worst, it is disrespectful and condescending.

No group of voters be it Filipinos or white males votes in lockstep and to think so demonstrates Ms. Singh-Allen's poor leadership skills.
