Vote tallies released this afternoon by the Sacramento County Voters Registration and Elections show Heidi Moore maintained her commanding lead in the three-candidate race for Elk Grove Unified School District Area 7 Trustee race.

Ms. Moore continues to lead incumbent Trustee Carmine Forcina with 5,130 votes for 45 percent of the total. Forcina has 3,091 votes for 27 percent, and Rehana Rehman has 3,016 for 26 percent.

The counts released last night showed similar results. Moore had 4,519 votes for 45 percent of the total. Forcina has 2,784 votes for 27 percent, and Rehana Rehman has 2,712 for 27 percent.

Although nonpartisan, Moore was endorsed by the Sacramento Republican Party. Conversely, Ms. Rehamn received the endorsement of the Democratic Party of Sacramento and the Elk Grove Education Associations.

During this election cycle, Democratic support the Forcina had previously enjoyed went to Rehman after he took stances against his Democratic colleagues on the Board of Trustees. Rehman and Forcina appear to have split the Democratic vote.

As of this afternoon, XX percent of the Area 7 votes have been counted. Mathematically, it will be difficult for Forcina and Rehman to gain the lead with the uncounted ballots.

Therefore, Moore is the projected winner in the Area 7 seat.

The next vote count will be released late Friday afternoon.
