Drone helps Elk Grove Police locate, apprehend suspect accused of organized retail theft

Elk Grove Police released a video showing the apprehension of a suspect arrested on multiple charges, including organized retail theft.
On Wednesday, December 4, Elk Grove Police officers responded to a theft at the Ulta store on Laguna Boulevard after a suspect with stolen goods fled in a white BMW. Using the Real Time Information Center and traffic cameras, the suspect was tracked to the Sephora store in The Ridge shopping center about a mile away.

The drone operator located and observed the suspect backing into a parking stall in front of Sephora. The operator confirmed that the driver matched the description of the Ulta theft suspect as they exited the BMW and entered Sephora.

Officers were waiting when the suspect, 34-year-old Marian Mitroi, exited Sephora. Mitroi attempted to flee on foot, but he was detained after a brief foot pursuit.

During the chase, stolen merchandise fell from his jacket as he tried to remove it. The investigation revealed that Mitroi had stolen goods worth nearly $7,000 from four Elk Grove stores.

Mitroi was booked at the Main Jail on multiple charges, including organized retail theft and grand theft. The suspect appears to have been released from the county jail.
