During the December 11, 2024, Sacramento Area Sewer District meeting, the board of directors heard an update on the massive Harvest Water project. That report included an update on the project's construction activities as it worked its way through Elk Grove.
The video below provides updated information on the project, which has affected traffic flow on Elk Grove's west side.
For those unfamiliar with it, The Harvest Water project is California's largest agricultural water recycling project. Its goal is to provide up to 50,000 acre-feet, approximately 16 billion gallons, of recycled water annually to irrigate up to 16,000 acres of agricultural and habitat lands in southern Sacramento County.
The estimated total cost of the Harvest Water Program is $597 million. A significant portion of this funding, approximately $291.8 million, has been secured through California's Proposition 1 Water Storage Investment Program.
Elk Grove's representatives on the board are councilmen Sergio Robles and Darren Suen.
