Vice Mayor Sergio Robles promises investigation of racist message on Elk Grove electronic traffic board

 UPDATED |

In a social media post this morning, the Elk Grove Vice Mayor promised to investigate a racist message placed on an electronic traffic board on Laguna Boulevard. The posting says the sign is near Franklin Boulevard on the city's west side.

Below is a copy of the blurred image of the racist term posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. The picture was posted last night, and the city of Elk Grove was tagged.

Vice Mayor Segio Robles promised to investigate the matter after breaking city council protocol and not having Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen act as the spokesperson.

Electronic traffic boards are typically operated by the city of Elk Grove's contractors. However, this traffic board was near the construction of the Harvest Water project, which is being managed by the Sacramento Area Sewer District.

Robles and Councilman Darren Suen are Elk Grove's representatives on their board of directors.

4 p.m. Update

The city of Elk Grove issued a social media statement this afternoon condemning the electronic traffic board racist message. Additionally, the statement said the message sign belongs to a contractor associated with the Sacramento Sewer District's Harvest Water Project.

See the statement below.  As of this afternoon, the Sacramento Sewer District has not posted anything on their social media about the incident.
