An Elk Grove News reader shared another rail blocking today in Elk Grove. A train was stopped on the Union Pacific track in old Elk Grove for almost 90 minutes this morning.
The photo above shows the crossing at Sheldon Road just west of Elk Grove-Florin Road. Our reader said the train was stopped starting at 6 am (and perhaps earlier) and opened at 7:37 am.
As we have reported for the last several years, this is a common occurrence in old Elk Grove. In November, another EGN reader shared images of a stopped train that trapped an ambulance on a service call from the Cosumnes Fire Department on westbound Bond Road just east of Elk Grove-Florin Road.
Another reader said there were unconfirmed reports that the Calvine Road on the city's northern border was blocked for four hours earlier today. Blocked rail crossing can prevent the efficient transport of emergency patients to area hospitals for life-saving treatment as well as reduce response time for police calls.
While Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen has gifted the Sacramento Zoological Society a $300 + million taxpayer-funded zoo, she refuses to address serious infrastructure flaws in old Elk Grove that could cause death to residents. Maybe the mayor, or for that matter any of the city council, would treat this infrastructure flaw with urgency if any of them lived on the wrong side of the tracks.
